How to questions

Does cropping a JPG reduce quality?

Cropping removes pixels from the edges, it does not soften what is left. The loss comes from saving, because JPG has to be re-encoded and every re-encode costs a little detail. Use the quality slider before you crop. It defaults to 80 percent, and 100 percent keeps the most detail in exchange for a larger file.

How do I crop a JPG without uploading it?

  1. Drop your JPG on this page.
  2. Drag the crop box, or choose a target size or aspect ratio.
  3. Download the result.

The cropping runs in your browser, so the file never reaches a server.

Can I crop many JPGs at once?

  1. Drop the whole folder of JPG files.
  2. Choose a target resolution or aspect ratio so every file gets the same treatment.
  3. Download them together as a zip. A single image downloads on its own instead.

Can I crop PNG files here?

Yes. PNG is cropped without re-encoding, so the output matches the original minus the part you cropped away. The quality slider does not apply to PNG, because the format is lossless.

Does cropping remove EXIF data?

Yes. The image is redrawn on a canvas before it is saved, which drops EXIF metadata such as camera settings and GPS location. If you need that metadata preserved, this is not the right tool.

Can I crop an image into a circle?

Yes. Turn on Circular crop on the crop screen. The crop box locks to a square so you get a real circle, and everything outside it becomes transparent. Transparency needs an alpha channel and JPG does not have one, so a circular crop is always saved as PNG even when you dropped a JPG.
